Cabling and automation leader LAPP Australia launches its own Harnessing Solutions division to boost productivity, quality, and safety

LAPP’s new Harnessing Solutions Australia business – staffed by specialised engineers, pictured above, has been established in a dedicated new Australian operation serving industry nationwide. The new facility and its team combine local expertise and manufacturing technologies, backed by the international resources of LAPP, placing more than 600 experts at industry’s disposal.

One of the world’s leading providers of branded cable and connector systems, LAPP, is introducing to Australia a dedicated Harnessing Solutions Division to help industries achieve automation and digitalisation faster, more efficiently and with OEM standards of quality control, safety, and traceability.

LAPP Australia Managing Director Simon Pullinger says the new LAPP Harnessing Solutions business – with its own dedicated technology team – is the next logical step in the expansion of LAPP Australia as a driver of the country’s digital transformation.

“We are advancing our service from being an outstandingly successful supplier of tens of thousands of world class cables and components, to becoming an integrated system supplier structured to assist a broad and growing range of industries in assembling the best integrated solutions tailored to their specific needs,” he says.

Cable harness solutions incorporate multiple LAPP brands all available under one roof, including such global brands as: ÖLFLEX® power and control cables, SKINTOP® cable glands, ETHERLINE® ethernet cables, UNITRONIC® data cables, EPIC® Connectors, SILVYN® robust cable protection and supply systems, HITRONIC® super-fast fibre-optic cables and FLEXIMARK® cable marking systems

Major demand for the new service is arising from increasing automated and digital businesses, such as automotive, heavy transport, logistics systems, food and beverage processing, energy, including green energy production, machine building, manufacturing, mining, mineral processing, ports, cranes, loading, agribusiness processes, paper, primary product processing, industrial motor and transmission applications, pumps, HVAC, water, wastewater, and construction systems.

Harnessing the power of experience

Simon Pullinger says the new facility is optimally equipped to deliver harness solutions engineered for local conditions, while drawing on the strength of its LAPP Group parent that is a global leader in connectivity solutions, which operates in more than 100 countries.

Advantages of the new facility include:

  • Time saving – off-site assembly frees up on-site employees for ongoing crucial work
  • Accuracy – harnesses are made to precise specifications and length every time
  • Accreditation to best industry standards – having harnesses made in a proper accredited facility with qualified harnessing engineers offers many benefits to complement on-site electrical installation:
    • Scrupulously clean facility approved for harnessing delivers product in top condition
    • Technicians employed are dedicated harnessing specialists and qualified engineers.
  • QA/QC controlled
  • Traceable work through meticulous recording of all tasks undertaken

Capabilities of the new facility include:

  • Custom cable assemblies and wiring harnesses
  • Prototyping and design support
  • Production and manufacturing
  • Testing and quality assurance
  • Support and repair services
  • Component selection and sourcing
  • Australian-made solutions

The comprehensive range of equipment installed in the new facility includes cable feeder technology, labeller for clear function identification, heat shrink technology for process protection, as well as combining cable stripping, cutting and stacking in one line to minimise repeat handling and maximise accuracy.

Precision production is further streamlined by complementary equipment including automatic Epic insert pin puncher, automatic ferrule crimper, single-cable multi-core sheath stripping machinery, single-cable/single-core sheath stripping machine, custom-designed over-moulding and soldering machinery, benchtop connection testing equipment for any connector and cable, complementary over-braiding services, curing oven for custom curly cables, desktop microscopic examination for QA and production assurance and service, with on-screen functionality and versatile software for diverse tasks across widely different industries.

Simon Pullinger says demand for integrated harnessing solutions is coming particularly from high-demand, time-poor, and market-responsive companies for which delay and downtime cost money.

“Such companies have found their digitalisation processes can quickly come under time pressure if they rely on manual and piecemeal cabling processes. Under pressure, mistakes can happen, downtime is a risk, plus the added value is zero.

“So more and more companies are removing such issues by placing the assembly of cables, cable harnesses, and drag chains in the hands of a specialist solutions provider working to top OEM standards,” he says.

Building on the overall success of LAPP Australia, the establishment of the Harnessing Solutions business is a logical next step up the supply chain in the interests of customers seeking wider service from the one source.

“As with the success of LAPP Australia, the success of the new Harnessing Solutions business is built on top-quality service with top-quality product, which has been our ethos at LAPP Australia from day one.”
