Water getting into DC Solar Isolators is one of the leading causes of isolator failures, and the main culprit is poor cable glanding. It can be difficult to seal around solar cables because there are often multiple small cables entering a single isolator switch.
This is why LAPP created the SKINTOP DIX insert. They are a high quality rubber seal which fits inside the cable gland and allows multiple smaller cables to be passed through a single entry. Because of the thickness and quality of the rubber, they maintain an IP68 water rating for your isolator.
SKINTOP DIX Options
They come in a variation of sizes, but commonly for the solar industry are used in 2x6mm, 3x6mm and 4x5mm hole configurations.
Adding the Right Cable Gland
It is also important to make sure the cable gland is suitable for the inserts, this is why we recommend always using an original SKINTOP ST-M cable gland from LAPP. Our cable glands have been tested with the DIX inserts to make sure the complete system works. The SKINTOP ST-M cable glands also have a patented anti-vibration system to ensure they never loosen off over time.
